Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) is an upcoming greenfield smart city.

Dholera is frequently in the news as the pace of major connectivity projects accelerates, with infrastructure construction expected to be completed in the next two to three years, barring any delays. Excitingly, Dholera may soon host Gujarat's first semiconductor manufacturing plant. This urban-industrial base is being developed from ground zero and will eventually host manufacturing plants, commercial operations, and residential communities. Designed for self-sufficiency, transit efficiency, and sustainability, Dholera aims to offer high-quality living standards. While the full realization of this blueprint remains to be seen, various components are currently under implementation.

Dholera is India’s first platinum-rated greenfield smart city and an integral part of 32 smart city projects within the ambitious National Industrial Corridor development. The site has been earmarked for a significant investment: a ₹1.64 lakh crore ($20 billion) semiconductor fabrication plant to be built by Taiwan’s Hon Hai Technology Group, also known as Foxconn, in partnership with Vedanta Group. This Foxconn-Vedanta deal is one of the largest corporate investments in India's semiconductor sector.

The recent opening of the first phase of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway has sparked curiosity about the progress of the Dholera-Ahmedabad Expressway project. Adding to the region's rising profile, the joint venture between electronics manufacturing giant Foxconn and Indian-focused commodity powerhouse Vedanta has confirmed its location for a semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, drawing global investor attention.
